Gynecomastia, which was described by Basedow in 1848, consists of the Greek words gine (woman) and mastia (breast). Gynecomastia, which means that the female breast tissue is in the male, is defined as the enlargement of one or two breasts due to the proliferation of the glandular component of the breast.

This condition, which can occur in different periods of life, including neonatal, puberty and old age, is common in healthy adolescent boys. Rarely, there is an underlying disease or drug use and it is defined as benign proliferation of male glandular breast tissue.

Gynecomastia is a condition of excessive breast growth seen in men. Gynecomastia, which can also be defined as the presence of female breast tissue in men, causes psychological problems, especially with the deformation it creates in the male physical image, and can also indicate various health-related problems.
